A church, nestled amongst trees on the bank, overlooks a placid lake, where a rowing boat crosses the river in the foreground and sailing vessels can be seen in the distance. A label affixed to the reverse of the frame attributes the work to Scottish landscape painter Jacob More (c.1740-1793). Well presented in an ornate gilt frame. Unsigned. On canvas on stretchers.
Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age, including some discolouration and craquelure. Evidence of restoration work, including relining and areas of overpainting. Some scuffs and scratches to the surface, most notably to the lower centre. Light wear to the frame.
