Impastoed oils render a quaint study of a countryside dwelling. The artwork is signed with the name 'J. P. Quinn' on the reverse of the board, but it is unclear if the artwork is his, as the original wove has been slightly cropped and laid to a masonite board at a date after its completion.
Well presented in an empire frame with molded and gilded detail and a gilded slip.
On wove laid to board.The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There have been some repairs to tears to the wove in the bottom right and top left quadrants.

James Peter Quinn (1869-1951) was an Australian artist, was born in Melbourne in 1870. He apprenticed as an engraver, and undertook part-time studies at the school of design, National Gallery of Victoria. He was awarded several student prizes, and he won the gallery's travelling scholarship in 1893.
Quinn went to London in 1894 but quickly left for Paris where he studied at the Académie Julian and at the Académie des Beaux-Arts. By 1904 he had exhibited with the Royal Academy of Arts and went on to establish a reputation as a highly successful portrait painter. He was a council-member of the London Portrait Society, and a member of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, exhibiting regularly with them and the Royal Academy, and in Paris with the Old and New salons.
His war portraits are held by the Australian War Memorial, Canberra, and he is represented in most Australian public collections and in major galleries throughout the world.
