Harold Workman (1897-1975) was a painter of landscapes, townscapes, interiors, and marine subjects in oils and watercolours. Born in Oldham, he studied at Oldham School of Art and Manchester School of Art. Workman was elected Royal Society of British Artists in 1937 and also showed at the Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, Walker Art Gallery, Manchester Academy of Fine Arts, New English Art Club, Royal Academy of Arts, Royal Cambrian Academy, Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, and Royal Institute of Oil Painters. He was President of the United Society of Artists and taught at the AA, Hammersmith School of Art and at St. Martin's School of Art. Many of his works were English townscapes but he also painted in Brittany. Examples of his work are held in the collections of the City of London Corporation, Gallery Oldham, Government Art Collection, Laing Art Gallery, Manchester City Galleries, National Maritime Museum, Northampton Museum and Art Gallery, Russell-Cotes Art Gallery & Museum and Salford Museum and Art Gallery.
