Attrib. Ernest Albert Waterlow RA PRWS (1850-1919) - Original 1880 Oil. A beautiful and very well executed woodland landscape scene with figures and dogs, excellently presented in a fantastic period gilt frame with acanthus leaf detail to the corners and scrolling scalloped detail. Monogrammed "EAW" and dated in red to the lower right. We have attributed this painting to Ernest Albert Waterlow RA PRWS (1850-1919) because we believe the monogram to be him after looking at other comparisons, and there are significant similarities in the handling of the paint and the style used. However, we do not have any provenance for this painting, thus we cannot list it as by Waterlow with absolute certainty. Signed and dated. On canvas. Condition is typical for a painting of this age, with some areas of light surface dirt and discolouration to the varnish, some fine passages of old craquelure, but the paint layer is stable. There are a few tiny areas of paint loss to the lower right near the signature. Inspection under UV light shows an area of restoration to the centre of the trees, with a repair patch to the reverse of the canvas. The frame has some small areas of loss to the decoration, mainly on the back edge.
