Description

A charming depiction of siblings. They wear shades of red and green and look directly towards the artist. Signed and dated to the upper right corner. Beautifully presented in a folk style painted frame. On canvas.

Condition

There is some craquelure to the surface. Traces of former rolling. Areas of minor surface restoration. Some discolouration to the varnish. Light wear to the frame.

Artist Biography

Arthur Terstegen was a German portrait and genre painter and copyist. He studied at the Munich Academy under Ludwig von Herterich from May 1905 and lived in Diessen am Ammersee from 1909 at the latest. He was recorded as being a practising artist in Chemnitz around 1912 with contemporaries Max E. Giese, Werner Hahmann, Alfred Hofmann-Stollberg, Adeline Koerner, Hugo Schimmel and Wolf Henry Döring. He was a founding member of the "Erzgebirgischer Künstlerbund". Around 1913 he married Lilli Elise Trösch (née Trösch). Terstegen fought in the First World War as a first lieutenant and was killed in action in Fromelles, spring of 1913.
