A 19th century etching from Armand Durand, a noted and very respected engraver, who dedicated the major part of his life re-creating early etchings from the masters. This fine composition depicts four women, dressed in classical attire, possibly taken from a larger renaissance painting. armand's stamp appears on the reverse, the prints were published by G. Rapilly of Paris. Durand's etchings have been purchased by major collectors throughout Europe, as well as the Louvre Museum in Paris and the French Bibliotheque Nationale.
Durand published all the great etchings of the masters, including a complete set of very fine reproductions of all 347 etchings of Rembrandt, known as: 'Armand Durand's after Rembrandt'.
On laid.The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and very minor losses to the bottom left and right edges.
