A well-struck stipple engraving with some hand colouring, by the engraver Anthony Fogg, after an original oil painting by William Hamilton RA.
Titled 'Priam's Prayer on his Departure for the Grecian Camp', the scene depicted is likely from The Iliad by Homer. There is an original in the collection at the British Museum. The inscription below the image reads 'London Published..as the Act directs, May 15, 1801, by A. Fogg No. 55 New Bond Street'. Other engravings by Fogg are also held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
This engraving has been struck from the original plate, but probably during later use.
Signed in plate. On wove.The plate strike appears very crisp. However, the print has been cropped within the plate line, and part of the title has been lost, as shown. There is overall discolouration and various closed tears, the largest being 4cm from the top edge. Also shows some minor foxing.

Anthony Fogg was a British engraver, active from 1792-1806. His most famous engraving depicts Sir Robert Walpole's administration in the House of Commons, a version of which is in the collection at the British Museum, the V&A and the Met in New York.
