Description

A captivating watercolour abstract painting by the artist Andrew Hewkin. Signed and dated to the lower right-hand corner and inscribed with title to the left-hand corner. There is an artist's studio stamp to the reverse. Well-presented in a cream card mount and in a simple gilt effect frame. On watercolour paper.

Artist Biography

Painter, born in Sutton Coldfield, Warwickshire who studied glass and ceramics at Stourbridge College of Art, 1966-67, sculpture and painting at West of England College of Art, 1967-1970, and painting of the RCA, 1970-1973. In 1972, he won a John Minton travelling scholarship and visited Greece, Turkey, and Cyprus. 1974 saw his first solo exhibition at Trafford Gallery and during 1974-75 he travelled extensively in Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia and the West Indies. He exhibited occasionally of the Royal Academy and has also held a solo exhibition at the Arnolfini Gallery, Bristol and at the Hamiltons Gallery, London. Hewkins has received many commissions such as travel agents Thomas Cook who requested him to travel down the Nile, airline British Airways to produce posters, a logo for the Peace Harmony concert in Tokyo to commemorate the end of the Gulf War, Playboy clubs to execute a version of their rabbit logo and works for bankers Barings. He held a retrospective at Barbadian Royal Westmorland hotel complex and a solo exhibition at The Gallery, Cork Street, London entitled 'The Quintessential Caribbean', both taking place in 2000.
