Description
A pastel portrait of a late-eighteenth century woman wearing a substantial hat. Presented in a verre eglomise mount and a black lacquer frame with a gilt-effect inner edge. There are two labels on the verso which include information about the sitter and attribution, stating that the painting depicts Elizabeth Rogers (1751-1810), wife of John Rogers of Broxbourne (1749-1803). The family is said to have moved from Hertfordshire, England to Indiana, USA. On wove.Condition
There is some mild cockling to the substrate, some surface marks and scratches, and a closed tear to the lower edge measuring 2.5cm and a further closed tear to the upper-left corner of the hat. There are some small marks to the frame. Overall well-presented and in good condition.
