There is a slight mark to the lower-left edge from a previous frame but overall in very good condition. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration.

Alfred Vickers Snr. (1786-1868) was a painter of marine subjects and landscapes. He exhibited extensively throughout his life, including 125 works at the Royal Academy and 81 works at Suffolk Street. He painted many coastal views, particularly in the area of the Isle of White and the Solent, in addition to painting on the continent. Works by Vickers are in Glasgow, Nottingham, and Sheffield Art Galleries.
