A masterfully rendered seascape by Belgian marine artist Albert Isidore Devos (1868-1950). Two figures, silhouetted against the gloaming sky, labour busily aboard a fishing boat. It is Devos' mastery of water, however, that is most impressive. He employs loose, expressive brushstrokes, applying white paint over deep blue tones to skilfully capture the foaming water and imbue the composition with a sense of movement. Signed to the lower left. Smartly presented in a black frame. On canvas on stretchers.
Condition
Both the artwork and the frame are in fine condition. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration.
