A watercolour with extensive gum arabic after the Irish artist William Mulready RA's (1786-1863) painting 'Giving a Bite' (1834), in the collection of the V&A. The painting depicts a rural scene with one boy offering a bite of an apple to another. There is a monkey in a ruff and red suit seated in the foreground who is watched intently by a dog. Inscribed in graphite with the title to the reverse and to the lower-left edge of the backing paper. Also inscribed in graphite with the medium to the centre and the name 'Mulready' to the right. On wove attached to wove at the top edge.
Condition
There is some minor discoloration and a crease to the lower-right corner. Overall in good condition.
