A painting after George Romney's (1734-1802) 'Lady Hamilton as Cassandra' (c.1785-6), in the collection of the Tate. In this portrait Emma, Lady Hamilton, appears as Cassandra, daughter of Priam, who was cursed to utter true prophecies but never to be believed. Very well presented glazed in a dark wooden mount with a gold inner edge and an ornate pierced gilt frame with intertwining acanthus leaves at the outer edge and floral and foliate moulding at the inner edge. Unsigned. On canvas on stretchers.
Condition
There are some small marks to the underside of the glazing. There are some areas of restoration to the moulding on the frame. Overall in very good condition.
