A very fine late 19th Century copy of Raphael's c.1514 'Madonna della seggiola' in watercolour. The artist has retained minute details and a vivid sense of figurative depth. Raphael's choice to forgo his linear style and strict geometric form is still clear in this handsome rendering. Mary embraces the child Christ in a loving manner, while a young St John the Baptist watches on in piety. The original is housed in the Palazzo Pitti collection in Florence, Italy.
Presented in a thin brass frame. On a white bone-like substrate.
Unsigned.In very good condition for a picture of this age. Some very light surface marks around the edges. The artwork is slightly loose in the brass frame. There is a tiny chip to the glazing on the right side.
