A painting after Frank Bramley RA's (1857-1915) 'A Hopeless Dawn' (1888). The title of the painting comes from a passage by John Ruskin which affirms that Christ is at the helm of every boat. The kneeling woman, comforted by her mother-in-law, realises that her husband is lost at sea, but the open Bible, altar-like table, and print on the wall hint at the consolations of religion. Presented in an ornate gold painted wooden frame. Unsigned. On board.
Condition
There are some chips and marks to the frame, primarily to the sides and lower-left corner. Overall in very good condition. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration.
