Description

A fine copy of the original portrait by François-Hubert Drouais (1727-1775), painted in 1758. The portrait is of the young Comte De Vaudreuil. He points to a map of the Americas, to where his father (commander-general of Saint-Domingue) was posted. The artist has signed to the lower right and the painting has been presented in a superb 19th Century, Louis XV gilt frame. The frame boasts all the typical flourishes of this particular type. including swept rail and corners, diaper and shell cartouches at the corners and centres of each rail. Delicate floral details span across the hatched cove and the frame is finished with a gilt slip. On canvas.

Condition

Some light scratching to the canvas at the left side. The frame has some large areas of restoration to the rail and some areas of the ornamentation. A 20th Century gilt finish has been applied.
