Artist Biography

Elisabeth Louise Vigée Le Brun was a French 18th century portrait painter. She was most well-known for being the popular portraitist of Mary Antoinette, creating some of the most prominent studies of the French monarch. Le Brun adopted a neoclassical style following the Rococo period, incorporating lavish Greek inspired clothing with the decadent subjects of 18th century portraiture. Her work is exhibited in the Louvre, MoMA, London's National Portrait Gallery and many other major galleries.
