After Claude Le Lorrain (1600-1682) - Large Framed Oil Arcadian Landscape
Description
An early 18th century idealised landscape after Claude Le Lorrain (1600-1682), depicting a peaceful and idyllic rural scene inspired by ancient Greece's Arcadia. The composition features gentle hills backed by great mountains and a still lake with a fortified castle. In the foreground, a shepherd tends his flock whilst a gentleman enjoys shooting, and a couple share an intimate moment near a small group of trees. Symbolising the harmony between humans and nature, the painting is well presented in a large 19th century gilt frame with wonderful patina. Unsigned. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age, including some discolouration to the varnish layer and craquelure to the surface. The discoloured varnish is more noticeable in the lighter area of the sky. The heavy gilt frame has good patina and age, with minor wear noted at the corners. The painting has been fully relined. The overall condition of the artwork is very good.
