A fine watercolour and gum arabic painting en grisaille after Carlo Dolci's (1616-1686) 'Mary Magdalene' (1660s). The original was once at the Uffizi, Florence and was then placed in the Palazzo Pitti during the rearrangement of 1928. Mary Magdalene is shown holding the vessel of ointment with which she is usually depicted, referencing the Anointing of Jesus. The chiaroscuro in the watercolour is particularly well-executed. Presented glazed in a cream mount and a wooden frame. Unsigned. On wove.
Condition
There is some slight stable craquelure in the areas where gum arabic has been applied. There are some minor scuffs to the frame. Overall well-presented and in excellent condition.
