After Carl Theodor von Piloty - Oil Seni Before the Corpse of Wallenstein

A finely painted copy after an 1855 painting by Carl Theodor von Piloty (1826-1886). The scene depicts the murdered Albrecht Wenzel Eusebius von Waldstein (known as Wallenstein) lying on the ground, with Giovanni Battista Seni, his personal physician and astrologer, standing beside him in mourning. The motif alludes to Friedrich Schiller's Wallenstein trilogy. Loosely based on historical events, the trilogy follows the downfall of the famous general Wallenstein. The dark tones and Gothic interior are complemented by the dark frame, whilst a scalloped gilt slip enhances the brighter tones of the sumptuous cloth and Wallenstein's white robes. Unsigned.
