Description

A characterful study of a young boy holding a glass of wine, inspired by the work of Renaissance artist Antonio Amorosi (1660-1738). The composition demonstrates the strong contrasts of light and shadow associated with Renaissance portraiture, drawing attention to the boy's expressive features and informal character. The work has an appealing old-master quality, combining intimate subject matter with careful observation and dramatic chiaroscuro. It is well presented in a dark wood frame with gilt detailing and is inscribed with initials to the lower left, although these are illegible. On board.

Condition

Minor surface marks and abrasions. A light, even patina of age is present across the surface of the artwork. The frame has minor surface wear and scuffs. Slight widening to the frame joints. The artwork is in very good condition for its age.
