This charming 18th-century portrait depicts a student of the Collegium Germanicum, shown in full winter house dress — a long red cassock with a shoulder cape and holding a black biretta in his hand — with the inscription "Alumnus Coll. Germ. in hiemem per domum incedens" ("a student of the German College, walking through the house in winter"). Unsigned. Well presented in a gilt frame. On canvas.
Condition
Craquelure and abrasions throughout. Inspection under UV light reveals previous restoration. Overall the artwork is in good condition for its age. Light wear to the frame.
