A fine crisp etching strike, by the French painter and engraver Adolphe Potemont Martial (1827-1883, after the painting 'The Angelus' by Jean Francois Millet. The Angelus is currently housed in the Musee D'Orsay in Paris. Here, Martial has altered the composition by moving a figure in order to suit a portrait composition. Both figures are depicted bowing their heads in prayer reciting the Angelus, standing in a potato field with their crop.
Monogrammed in Plate.On wove.In very good condition overall. The plate marks have been pressed, and so are very shallow but still visible. There is some surface abrasion around the etching, to the borders.
