Description

A figure strolls in contemplation through stark fields on a cold winter's eve. The artwork has been completed with delicate watercolours, and is signed and dated in the lower left. Affixed to the rear is a label of authenticity, created at the time of purchase from Stannard himself. The artwork is well presented in a gilded frame with a beaded molded strip along the inner window and a gilded mount.

Condition

There are some areas of discolouration found in the sky, but the artwork is otherwise in fine condition.

Artist Biography

Alexander Molyneux Stannard was born in Bedfordshire, England. He was the son of the painter Henry Stannard, who taught him from an early age. He lives in Haversham most of his life, and painted the landscapes of Buckinghamshire, Bedford, Devonshire and other English locations. He exhibited work at the Royal Society of British Artists and was made a member of the Royal Drawing Society in 1909.
