A lively late-nineteenth or early-twentieth-century genre scene after a popular composition that has been replicated by several artists, though the original artist is unknown. The scene depicts a young couple flirting in a wine cellar, seated beside a large barrel with bottles and jugs scattered about the room. The work is signed lower right and inscribed 'Venezia'. Well presented in a gilt frame featuring beaded and foliate running patterns.
Condition
Some discolouration and areas of craquelure; however, the condition is good for a picture of this age overall. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration. Cracks and small losses to the frame.
