19th Century Watercolour - Victorian Street Scene

Description

A very fine 19th century watercolour depicting a busy street scene. A large church dominates the scenery with smaller buildings and crowds of people filtering through the tree lined path. The artist has wonderfully captured this moment in time with great detail and accuracy. Although there is no date and signature connected to the composition, the clothing worn by the figures could date this watercolour to the 1830's or 40's. Unsigned. On wove.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and foxing. There is a small tear at the lower right edge, measuring les than 1cm. Other very small tears at the upper edge, none more than 1cm. Very minor surface scratch the lower central area, just next to the gentleman and his horse. Measures 6cm from edge.
