A fine 19th Century English School portrait of a child in pastel with graphite details. The original sketch lines can be seen through the applied pastel colouring, giving the viewer an insight into the artists process of construction. This may also have been a preparatory study for a larger work. Presented in a handsome solid oak frame with gold detail behind original glazing. Unsigned. On wove.
Condition
In fine condition overall, with some discolouration and trapped dirt to the edges of the drawing. There is a closed tear to the centre of the lower edge. The condition of the frame is typical for its age, with some marks and indentations in the wood.
