This delightful 19th-century devotional painting depicts Saint Joseph holding the Christ Child, who radiates a soft golden light. Joseph is dressed in blue and gold, while white lilies resting on the table symbolise his purity. Both figures are rendered with large, luminous eyes and gently flushed cheeks - hallmarks of the period - which further emphasise their holiness. Unsigned. Abrasions throughout. The artwork has undergone restoration, including overpainting. Some warping to the tin panel. Some wear to the frame, including scuffs, and small chips.
