A finely painted portrait of a formally attired gentleman, who returns the viewer's gaze with a stern expression. An inscription to the reverse identifies the sitter as Eduard Adolph Viktor Kreutzer (1808–1882). The work is well presented in a gilt frame with an ornate inlaid running pattern. Unsigned. On canvas on stretchers.
Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age, including discolouration and craquelure. Two canvas tear repairs, and inspection under UV light reveals areas of overpainting. Scratches, stable cracking, and small losses to the frame. Overall, the artwork is in good condition for its age.
