A fine Victorian portrait, showing a young woman with dark eyes and neatly styled hair. She wears a brown dress (a pleasant departure from the more traditional black mourning attire seen in the majority of portraits from this era), with a lace collar and an attractive cameo brooch at her neck. Her rosy cheeks and the earthy tones of her dress add a warmth to the portrait. Handsomely presented in its original 19th Century gilt frame with lozenge molding at the outer window, laurel and berry molding at the inner window and acanthus leaf cartouches at the inner corners of the oval window slip. Condition
The painting is in remarkably good condition for its age, with a small amount of touching in at the lower third. The frame too is in good condition with some minor areas of of successful restoration to the molding.
