A delightful oil painting depicting two pigs eating from a trough. A spaniel hovers nearby hoping for leftovers. This delightful scene is very well presented in a late 19th or early 20th century gilt effect frame with gilt slip. Fixed to the reverse of the panel is a typed note that reads 'Believed to be a contemporary painting by George Maldon or Meldon. Date about 1730. Purchased in Christchurch, Hampshire for £3 and 3 shillings. Jan 21st 1949. H.S.R. Eyre'. We believe that the artwork is in fact 19th century and not 18th century as stated in the typed note. Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There is some craquelure to the surface The painting has been historically restored, leaving a slightly undulated surface, possibly caused by heat.
