A delightful early 20th century portrait depicting a dignified elderly gentleman in a smart suit. The artist has rendered the subject in a soft, sensitive style, whilst highlighting details such as his icy blue eyes and sparkling wedding band. Dated and signed indistinctly to the lower right, possibly 'Marie D'Maeyer'. Handsomely presented in a gilt frame. On canvas on stretchers.
Condition
There are some abrasions to the surface of the painting, notably to the lower margin. Very fine craquelure, particularly to the upper right. The frame shows signs of wear consistent with age, including some scuffing and small losses along the edges.
