Description

This charming portrait captures Rebecca, daughter of John and Mary Davis of London at a desk writing with a quill. Her fine dress with lace embellishments and a elegant cap reflect the fashion in middle-class society in the late 18th century. Drawn in excellent detail, with particular attention to the delicate features of Rebecca's face.

Inscribed to the reverse: 'Rebecca d. of John and Mary Davis of London. B. Aug 8th 1755. Died July 17th 1803. A.S.H.D.S gr. gr. grandmother.' Presented in an oval cut mount and glazed gilt effect frame. Signed to the lower right.
