A late 18th century/early 19th century oil on hand-cut oak panel by an unknown artist. Inside a tavern, a drunken man, seated on a wooden chair, has fallen asleep. Holding his drinking glass, he lets go of his still burning pipe, visible by his feet. Unsigned.
Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration, craquelure and areas of paint loss, mainly to the margins. Some scuffs to the edges of the panel. The surface has been recently finished with varnish.
