A lively late 18th-century genre scene in which a woman sits at a fruit stall as another lady browses the plethora of produce on offer. Beside her, a small girl sits playing with her little spaniel, while in the distance shoppers move through the market with baskets in hand. Unsigned. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
Craquelure and light abrasions throughout. Discolouration to the varnish. The artwork has been previously restored: the canvas has been relined. Areas of overpainting visible under UV light. Heat damage to the figure on the left. Wear to the edges of the canvas.
