Description
A delightful 18th-century portrait of a refined young boy dressed in a striking blue jacket—a popular colour for men’s and boys’ coats throughout the 1700s. He wears a white satin waistcoat, complemented by a ruffled collar and matching cuffs. In his hands, he holds a book, subtly conveying his scholarly nature and suggesting an education befitting his elegant appearance. Unsigned. Well presented in a carved frame. On canvas laid to board.Condition
Fine craquelure and light abrasions throughout. Some discolouration to the surface. Inspection under UV light reveals previous restoration. Wear to the frame, including scuffs, chips and indentations. Historic woodworm damage present – the frame has been fully treated and is pest free. Overall, the artwork is in good condition for its age.
