1881 Oil - View of a Farmstead

Description

An idyllic late nineteenth-century landscape in which figures sit beside a rugged track leading towards a humble farmstead. Golden sunlight breaks through grey clouds overhead, while smoke drifts gently from the chimney. Dated and indistinctly signed to the lower right. Well presented in an antique gilt frame. On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

Signs of wear consistent with age, including discolouration and craquelure. The canvas has been relined, and inspection under UV light reveals areas of overpainting. Wear to the frame, including scuffs, stable cracking, and small losses. The artwork is in good condition for its age.
