This finely executed Flemish watercolour depicts a woman before an altar and a beautiful triptych. The artist conveys the light shining through the church windows with an expert hand, showing it lightly falling on the statue of Christ on the Cross. Other details such as the ornate moulding on the triptych and the angels on the candlesticks show a meticulous attitude towards capturing the particulars in the scene, making for a wonderfully eye-catching composition. Unsigned. Label to the reverse dates this painting to c.1853. Presented in a Hogarth-style frame. On paper.
