A stunning 17th-century Baroque devotional work depicting the Virgin Mary, Saint Joseph, and the Infant Christ, with the Holy Spirit above. Rich in symbolic meaning, the composition centres on a tender moment in which the Christ Child is passed from Joseph to Mary. To the right, Joseph's workshop is suggested by what appears to be a carpenter's frame with tools leaning against it, whilst Mary is seated beside a book, a common attribute in Marian iconography. Possibly the work of a Flemish Baroque workshop, the painting is unsigned. On canvas.
Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age. Fine craquelure and light surface marks observed throughout. Inspection under UV light reveals areas of previous restoration. Tears to the canvas have been previously restored. Overall, the artwork is in good condition for its age.
