Description

A captivating watercolour painting by the artist Winifred M. Clement Smith. The scene depicts a blacksmith in a forge. Title is inscribed on the reverse. There is an artist's label to the reverse. Signed to the lower left-hand corner. Well-presented in a wash line card mount and in a wooden frame. On watercolour paper.

Condition

In good condition overall, with slight discolouration. Minor scuffs to the frame.

Artist Biography

Painter and embroiderer, born, educated and lived in Tunbridge Wells. She attended Tunbridge School of Art, also furthering her studies at Regent Street Polytechnic School of Art. Showed at Royal Institute of Oil Painters, Pastel Society, Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, Society of Women Artists. She was a member of Tunbridge Wells Art Club. Her husband was an architect, Clement Smith, and Winifred adopted Clement as part of her surname. A painting by her is in the collection of Brighton and Hove Museums and Art Galleries.
