An intimate still life painting by German artist Willy Schmidt-Petit (1881-1958). The scene depicts a classical arrangement of red apples and golden oranges nestled in sage-green cloth alongside a deep blue ceramic jug. The composition employs rich, earthy tones and subtle chiaroscuro against a dark, shadowy background. Well presented in a wooden frame with gilt slip. Signed lower left and dated 1929. On canvas.
Condition
There is a small dent to the canvas (top third, near centre). Minor surface abrasions to the lower right-hand corner. Inspection under UV light reveals light restoration. The frame has minor surface wear. Overall, the artwork is presented in very good condition for its age.
