Description

This exquisite eastern watercolour depicts a native cattle farmer, leading his two haltered oxen to feed in a barren desert landscape. The painting has been signed and dated to the lower right. Immaculately presented in an elegant bevelled edged frame with a newly cut mount. On paper.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some light discolouration to the watercolour and slight wear to the gilt-effect frame.

Artist Biography

Born into a fishing family at Poulton-le-Sands, Lancashire. Woodhouse was a gifted child who study at Lancaster School of Art. He was twenty-six when he first exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy and also showed at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, Walker Art Gallery, Manchester Academy of Fine Arts and Royal Academy of Arts. As well as sporting paintings Woodhouse also painted birds, animals and landscapes and was a very competent portraitist.
