The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. With two large creases across the lower corners, pinhole marks and some water damage, as shown in the accompanying images.

Landscape painter and printmaker born in Marylebone, London the son of an optician. He originally trained with his father but turned to art and studied at the Slade School furthering his knowledge at Académie Julian in 1892 and back in London at the Central School of Arts & Crafts where he honed his printmaking skills. A prolific exhibitor Manning showed at the Baillie Gallery, Chenil Gallery, FAS, Goupil Gallery, ISSPG, LS, MAFA, NEAC, NG, RP, RA, RBA, RBSA, RHA, ROI, RGI, STISA and at the Walker Art Gallery. He was elected RBA in 1901, an Associate of the RE in 1917 and ROI the following year. Galleries holding his work include the British Museum and Victoria & Albert Museum.
