William Watt Milne (1865-1949) was a painter, born in Edinburgh. He studied at the Edinburgh School of Art and at the Royal Scottish Academy Schools. He was a gifted student and won several drawing and painting prizes, including the Chalmers Bursary in 1887. Milne married in 1916 and had three daughters. The family moved south and took up residence in Houghton, Cambridgeshire. Milne exhibited frequently during his early years in Scotland at venues including the Royal Scottish Academy and the Glasgow Institute and later at the Royal Cambrian Academy and Manchester Academy of Fine Arts. His work is wholly impressionistic, and he was obviously much influenced by The Glasgow Boys. An exhibition of his paintings was held at Cambridge Fine Art in 1990. Examples of his work are in the collections of Artemis Art Forms, Burton Art Gallery, Norris Museum and Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum.
