An impressive monochromatic nautical scene by listed British artist William Thomas Nicholas Boyce. Known for his marine subject matter and detailed depictions of ships this particular artwork is a fine example of his work. The monochrome tones heightens the drama of the scene with scratched highlights to the moonlit sea. Laid to backing card. Signed and dated. On wove.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. With a foxing spot visible to the sky area, mount burn, some glue residue to the edges and surface scratches to the right margin. There are also two tears to the lower edge.

Artist Biography
Painter, born at Blakeney, Norfolk. He is best known for his marine paintings and was a draper before turning to painting. Self-taught he appears to have only exhibited in the North East at venues such as the Bewick Art Club and the South Shields Art Club. He had nine sons of whom three, Herbert Walter, Albert Ernest and Norman Septimus also painted.
