William Say (1768-1834) - Original 1814 Mezzotint. A proof published by T. Macdonald at the Poets Gallery, London. "Virgin and Child - From the Original Picture in the Collection of the late Noel Desenfans Esq". After the painting by Bartolomé Estéban Murillo. From the collection of Christopher Lennox-Boyd. Signed in plate. Condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and foxing. 1cm tear to upper edge of page and various small tears to the upper left edge. Image itself in excellent condition for a work of this age. Minor surface abrasions.

William Say (1768 - 1834) Mezzotint engraver of portraits and historical, genre and decorative subjects after his contemporaries and Old Master Painters. Born near Norwich, he came to London at the age of Twenty and was apprenticed to J. Ward. In 1807 he was appointed engraver to the Duke of York.
