The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and surface dirt. A 2.5cm tear has been repaired to the lower edge of the paper. There are visible paper creases on all four corners. The paper has been cropped very close to the plate line, however it is visible.

William Marshall Craig (c.1765-1834), originally came from Manchester, but settled in London about 1791. He exhibited many at times at the Royal Academy, from 1788 until 1827. He was personal painter in water-colours to the Queen, and miniature painter to the Duke and Duchess of York. He also excelled as a draughtsman on wood, and engravings and as a book illustrator, and he published in 1821 'Lectures on Drawing, Painting, and Engraving.'
