Fisher's gentle brushwork provides a hazy quality to this peaceful pastoral watercolour. Signed and dated to the lower right. Presented in a gilt-effect frame with cream mount. On watercolour paper.

Condition

Signs of wear consistent with age, including some discolouration and foxing. Marks and scuffs to the frame.

Artist Biography

William Mark Fisher was born in Boston, USA. He studied at Gleyre's Atelier in Paris, before settling in England in 1872. Foremost an English Impressionist, he exhibited at the New English Art Club, Royal Academy, the Royal Watercolour Society and the Essex Art Club, of which for a time he was President. Fisher was elected a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours in 1881, an Associate of the RA in 1911 and full member in 1919. His work is in the collections of Brighton and Hove Museums and Art Galleries, Burton Art Gallery, Leeds City Art Gallery, and Tate Gallery. There are also examples in art galleries and museums in Adelaide, Auckland, Melbourne and Sydney.
