A charmingly rustic late 19th Century portrait of a smiling piper, holding his flute at his side, the other raised in a greeting. The artist has signed and dated to the lower left quadrant and the painting has been presented in its original gilt slip. On canva.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. The slip has some tarnishing and wear to the gilt.

Artist Biography
William Lucas was a Victorian portrait painter who specialised in watercolour studies. He was elected as a Associate of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour in 1864.
During his relatively short painting career he exhibited at the Royal Academy, Society of British Artists, Suffolk Street, and the New Watercolour Society.
