William Joseph Shayer - Original 19th Century Aquatint. Engraved by J. R Mackrell, published at Old New Bond Street, London. Inscribed: "Lord William - the Property of Samuel Lawrence Esq. This extraordinary animal Trotted a Match against time in harness, for a wager of 200 Sovereigns aside, from London to Brighton, in the unprecedented time of Three hours and Fifty minutes,. October 14th 1841 - Driven by the Owner". Unsigned. Condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. Creases to the paper, general discolouration and fading, some surface dirt and marks.
